Thomas Tuchel says Kai Havertz is not resting on his laurels after his fantastic finale to the 2020/21 campaign, and the boss is doing everything he can to ensure his compatriot reaches his potential.

Havertz etched his name into Chelsea folklore with the winning goal in Porto, before putting in a good showing for Germany in his maiden senior international tournament.

Since then, Havertz has started our three most recent league games, scoring at Liverpool, and Tuchel is pleased with how he has picked up from where he left off last term.

‘I found him very strong when he came back from his summer,’ reported the boss.

‘I was very pleased with his attitude towards training, and in the pre-season matches and early in the season.

‘I have felt him to be very self-confident after the end of last season when he was very decisive, and of course decisive in the Champions League final. He did not lean back on that, or take it as a given he has made his impact and got his place.

‘He is fighting hard and I could feel a different attitude and self-confidence in training. If he missed in training he took the next shot straight away, with belief.

‘He is in a good place, he pushes himself and he wants to continue and get better,’ added Tuchel of Havertz’s mindset.

‘This is actually what we demand. The guy is so full of talent he will not have a relaxed second with me.

‘If you have this amount of talent you have to push yourself to the absolute maximum. Where is the absolute maximum for this guy? Nobody knows. He has the body, he has the talent, he has the head, and he has the belief to play at the very top.’
