Chelsea Here Chelsea There: Miazga shuts out Atletico and Coventry march on

In our latest summary of the loan action for Chelsea players, there is news of a notable win in Spain, a largely successful weekend in the Championship and a red card in France…

Matt Miazga was at the heart of the Alaves defence that kept Atletico Madrid at bay on Saturday (pictured top), helping the bottom side in La Liga pick up their first points of the season having taken an early lead in the Basque Country. The 1-0 win lifts them to 19th, with Miazga completing the full game having been a late sub in the 1-0 midweek loss away to Espanyol.

In Ligue 1, Emerson was sent off for Lyon. He was adjudged to have made a last-man foul having accidentally tripped a Lorient player early on. The visitors scored from the resulting free-kick, but the 10 men of Lyon equalised in the second half to earn a point.

Coventry’s good start to the season goes on with two Blues featuring in their 3-0 win over Peterborough on Friday night. Jake Clarke-Salter was in the centre of the back three, with Ian Maatsen, who played all but the closing stages, at left wing-back. They are now third in England’s second tier.

Danny Drinkwater and Baba Rahman completed the full game as Reading defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 to continue their ascent up the Championship table. They’re now ninth, while Blackpool are up to 14th after beating Barnsley 1-0 with Dujon Sterling at right-back.

Huddersfield lost by the same scoreline to Swansea, Levi Colwill continuing in defence. They host Blackburn on Tuesday.

Henry Lawrence was part of the AFC Wimbledon side that lost their first-ever game at the Emirates 3-0 in the Carabao Cup last midweek. He then came off the bench in a 2-1 reverse at Shrewsbury.

Jamie Cumming made plenty of saves to help Gillingham leave Oxford with a point on Saturday. It finished 1-1, as their midweek fixture at home to Charlton had a few days before.

In the Premier League, Armando Broja played the last half-an-hour of Southampton’s 1-0 defeat to Wolves yesterday. He had seen a penalty saved in the Saints’ Carabao Cup shoot-out success over Sheffield United that booked their fourth round meeting with us.

Norwich didn’t advance in that competition having lost 3-0 to Liverpool with Billy Gilmour in midfield. He was an unused sub in the Canaries’ 2-0 league defeat at Everton.

There were two sub appearances for Tino Anjorin in Russia as Lokomotiv Moscow were held to goalless draws away to Ural and Khimki.

Thierno Ballo made his first league appearance for Rapid Vienna, beaten 3-0 by Sturm Graz, while Michy Batshuayi featured in Besiktas’ 3-3 draw with Adana Demirspor. He missed their game on Friday through a knee injury.

In Slovenia, Karlo Ziger kept goal as Rudar Velenje beat Krsko 3-1.
