Our midfield duo of Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho both recently surpassed 150 appearances for the Blues and Thomas Tuchel has spoken in glowing terms of both players...

The midfielders, who both signed for the club in the summer of 2018, have started in four of our seven Premier League fixtures so far and played valuable roles in our fine start to the campaign.

‘They are super reliable, top-quality players. Between the two of them there is a good link, because they are a good mix,’ Tuchel said.

‘With N’Golo, Kova and Jorgi, we have three fantastic central midfielders. All of them are a good mix, and allow us to play with two central midfielders and that is what we want.’

Our German head coach was keen to emphasise the importance of utilising all of his midfield options, though, as was noted when he started Ruben Loftus-Cheek in place of Jorginho in our 3-1 victory over Southampton last weekend.

‘Now we have added Saul and Ruben Loftus-Cheek to the group, and we have more possibilities. They have to grow into that same game understanding of what we want.

‘It is nice to see Kova so strong in the last games, for Jorgi it is not easy because he came without a pre-season, and everybody tries to close his passing down. But he is so important in organising.

‘Nothing has changed, we are happy to have the guys and it is good for them to reach a lot of games, it shows they are important.’
