Jessie Fleming admitted there is a good spirit among the Blues squad after Chelsea Women made it four league wins in as many games with a 2-0 victory over Leicester City.

Fleming was involved for Pernille Harder’s opener at Kingsmeadow, providing an assist for the Denmark captain before Fran Kirby sealed the three points in stoppage time.

It has been some week for Fleming after she was named among 20 players shortlisted for the Ballon d’Or and the 23-year-old followed that up with a Player of the Match performance on Sunday.

She said: ‘It’s been a great week at the club, and it’s been a good start to the season for us.

‘I loved this game, it was fun getting to play with some different players and working on those partnerships out there. We are excited going into the Champions League on Wednesday, so there are lots of positive vibes around the group right now.’

The Blues had to wait until the 82nd minute before breaking the deadlock against the Foxes and Fleming revealed a message from Emma Hayes at half-time which ultimately proved vital in getting the three points.

She said: ‘We had a bit of a slow start to the game, so the message was to bring a bit more energy into the game, keeping the tempo of the play up, keep creating chances and the goals would come.

‘We had a couple of good chances in the first half that just weren’t coming off. They had numbers behind the ball, so we had to keep chipping away at it and eventually it came.

‘Sometimes you have those games where it doesn’t come off, so to see the ball go into the back of the net was a big relief.’

Fleming and her Blues team-mates now prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League clash at Juventus which kicks-off 8pm UK time.
