Yakubu names Drobga as Africa’s greatest ever footballer

Former Everton and Blackburn striker Yakubu has claimed Blues legend Didier Drogba is the best ever African to grace the Premier League.

Despite the form of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, Drogba still leads the way in the former Nigerian international’s opinion.

In an interview with Goal, the Premier League icon was full of praise for the Blues legend.

‘You cannot say Salah is the greatest African to play in the Premier League. Drogba was something special because he was scoring for fun,’ Yakubu told Goal.

‘However, you have to give Salah the credit for breaking the big legend’s [Drogba] record, which makes him one of the greatest Africans in the English top-flight, but for now, he is certainly not the greatest.’

‘All the same, we have to applaud the Egyptian (Salah) for his fine form because it is not easy to play the way he is doing that right now – which is incredible.’

Blues eye Los Blancos midfielder?

The Blues are reportedly eyeing a deal for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde.

The Uruguayan midfielder is contracted at Los Blancos until the summer of 2027 and has started the season well under Carlo Ancelotti in the Spanish capital.

In a report by El Nacional, Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

‘Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel wants to strengthen his team's midfield,’ the report states.

‘The current Champions League champions have a powerful and resourceful squad, but the German coach believes he needs some multiplayer midfielder to get into the rotation of Kante and Jorginho without lowering the overall level, ending the dependence on these two excellent footballers.

‘And his great choice is Federico Valverde, a Real Madrid player, whom he already tried to sign unsuccessfully last season, as reported during the summer by various English media.’

Chelsea learn UEFA coefficient ranking

UEFA have released the latest edition of their club rankings, with the Blues high up on the list.

Chelsea are one of four Premier League clubs ranked within the top 10, with Thomas Tuchel’s men placed in fourth.

A report in the Irish Mirror highlighted how Chelsea’s Champions League triumph was not enough to place them above Bayern Munich, Manchester City or Liverpool.

‘Chelsea are only fourth on the list, despite winning the Champions League last season, Europa League in 2019 and Super Cup in August’ the report states.

Bayern Munich top the charts, with the story showing their points haul.

‘The German giants have accumulated 122 points in UEFA's algorithm due to their recent success in the Champions League,’ the story states.

Chelsea have 106 points, just five less than Liverpool in third.
