Flo to move on in New Year

Tore Andre Flo will be leaving his position as a loan player technical coach at Chelsea Football Club at the end of 2021 to take a coaching role in his homeland of Norway.

Flo is to become head coach at Sogndal, a club currently playing in the Norwegian second tier. It is also where he began and finished his professional playing career.

After retiring from playing in 2012, Flo returned to Chelsea, initially working in our Academy before his role mentoring players during their time on loan at other clubs.

As a player at Chelsea, Flo was one of the stars of the golden, trophy-winning period under Gianluca Vialli at the end of the 1990s and very start of the new Millennium.

In one calendar year, 1998, he was part of the side that won three trophies, the League Cup and the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup and Super Cup, and added to those with the FA Cup in 2000.

Flo was also topscorer in our first-ever season in the Champions League, 1999/00, most memorably netting three times over two legs against Barcelona in an ultimately unsuccessful quarter-final. He also scored a hat-trick in our record win over Tottenham, 6-1 in 1997.

He remains working at Chelsea until he begins his new appointment, when we wish him well for the next stage in his career.
