Blues apparently eye Szalai

Chelsea have reportedly met with Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai and his representatives in London ahead of a January move.

The Hungarian international has started the season strongly in Turkey, making 12 appearances in the SuperLig.

According to Football Insider, the Blues are preparing a bid to bring the centre-back to SW6 as soon as January, with the player reportedly keen on the move.

‘Chelsea are ready to test Fenerbahce’s resolve to keep hold of the player in the January transfer window,’ the story states.

‘Szalai has a contract at the Turkish club that runs until the summer of 2025.

‘Szalai has impressed for club and country during the last 12 months and featured against England during their recent World Cup qualifiers.

‘He has earned 23 caps for Hungary and played four matches in this season’s Europa League.’

Lampard answers quickfire questions

Frank Lampard has revealed who he thinks the best ever Chelsea player is, as well providing an insight into the dressing room during his 13 years playing at the club.

Speaking to Gary Neville’s YouTube channel, The Overlap, Lampard admitted it is a toss up between two forward thinking playmakers, but gave one man the edge over natural ability.

‘Hazard, but Franco [Zola] made such an impression in the first year at Chelsea I came as an all-rounder,’ Lampard said. ‘But Hazard's levels at Chelsea were the best technical, talented player that Chelsea has ever had.’

When asked by Neville who the best player he played with was, he was again split between two Chelsea legends.

‘I always have to split this one between John [Terry] and Didier [Drogba],' added Lamps. 'John was the leader, drove the dressing room. Didier was the man for the big moments.’

Terry was also the most competitive player in training, according to the ex-Blues boss.

‘John Terry. Every day, at it, at the coach who was the ref, at everyone, pulled the place up by the scruff of the neck when it was needed.’

The midfielder played for the Blues in the Premier League between 2001/02 and the 2013/14 season, and there is one ground that he loved playing at more than any other.

‘Tottenham. We used to beat them a lot,’ Lampard said, smirking.

‘We lost once. Before I came [to Chelsea], they called it ‘Three Point Lane’ rather than White Hart Lane. It was hostile in a good way.’

Sessegnon inspired by Chelsea full-backs

Tottenham full-back Ryan Sessegnon has admitted he looks up to Chelsea duo Ben Chilwell and Reece James and wants to replicate their style of play.

Sessegnon has struggled to make an impact for Spurs since signing from Fulham in 2019 but made his first Premier League appearance for the club since January 2020 in their win over Leeds last weekend before being sent off in last night's Europa League Conference defeat to Slovenian minnows NS Mura.

The 21-year-old, speaking to the Evening Standard, said the form of Reece James, with five goals and five assists, and Ben Chilwell who has notched three goals, is inspiring him to improve.

‘Chilwell and James are doing very well offensively and defensively for Chelsea this season – at every opportunity, they're arriving in the box, scoring goals, getting assists,’ he said.

‘That's something I like to do as well. Credit to them, they're playing very well at the moment in a similar system that we're playing where for me I can get in the box, score and create chances.’
