Mendy reveals hilarious Kante anecdote

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has revealed the bold prediction N’Golo Kante made en route to winning the Champions League last season.

Chelsea began last season’s campaign in a group with Sevilla, Rennes and Krasnodar and it was before Matchday 1 in Seville where N’Golo had a feeling the Blues would go all the way.

Speaking to beIN Sports, as quoted by the Irish Mirror, Mendy outlines the hilarious conversation the pair had, alongside Olivier Giroud.

‘I have the best anecdote of the season,' explained Mendy. 'We were travelling with N'Golo, Kurt (Zouma) and Olivier (Giroud).

‘N'Golo confidently said: “Guys I think this year we will win the Champions League. Yes, I don't know, I have a feeling.” The first day.

‘I told him to wait and see how the game went tonight.’

Kante's prediction didn’t get off to winning ways, as the Blues were held 0-0 by their Spanish opposition.

Mendy added: ‘That night Sevilla played and honestly, it was the most difficult game we had in the group stage.

‘They came to our pitch and they pushed us like crazy, they had the ball 70 per cent of the time. N'Golo, I think he ran 13 kilometres.

‘At the end of the game, I asked him again and he said: “I think we’ll wait a little bit before we say that.”’

Lampard on touch of class from Thiago

Chelsea icon and former boss Frank Lampard has outlined the heartfelt message he received from Brazilian Thiago Silva after our Champions League triumph in May.

The defender was brought to the club under the Lampard reign as a free agent following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, and has been an outstanding performer in the heart of the Blues defence ever since.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap YouTube channel, Lamaprd revealed the message he received post-match.

‘Thiago Silva sent me a beautiful message after the game [UCL final] saying "thanks for bringing me to club"', Lampard said.

Lampard also spoke of his initial feelings when the club had informed him they were bringing the serial winner to Stamford Bridge.

‘Thiago Silva was a no-brainer. When he came up, I was rubbing my hands together and going "yes please, free transfer."

‘He’s been one of the best centre-backs in the world for a while.’

Joe Cole on 'outstanding' Cobham graduate

Joe Cole believes Ruben Loftus-Cheek is finally finding his best form under Thomas Tuchel and has been ‘the pick of the bunch’ under the Bavarian recently.

Loftus-Cheek has forced his way into Tuchel’s plans this campaign after a good pre-season in the summer and some brilliant Chelsea performances – most notably away to Malmo and at home to Juventus in the Champions League.

Speaking on Amazon Prime before the Watford game this week, reported by Mail Online, Cole hailed the ‘outstanding’ midfielder.

‘He’s been outstanding,’ the former Chelsea winger said.

‘A lot of people raised eyebrows when he stayed there because it didn’t quite work for Ruben when he was at Fulham last year.

‘He looked like he was carrying an injury at times but he’s been outstanding for Chelsea.

‘He’s actually been the pick of the bunch for Chelsea. He looks fit, strong, lean.

‘That’s the demands he (Tuchel) sets. He’s gone clean slate and (said) this is what’s expected, this is the level.

‘You’re either on the train with us or you jump off and Ruben has jumped on the train and he’s driving the train at the moment.’
