Manager Emma Hayes says her treble-winning Chelsea players are on a collective ‘mission’ to bring success to the club.

The dominant 3-0 victory over Arsenal in the delayed 2021 FA Cup final at Wembley on Sunday completed a domestic treble of FA Cup, Women’s Super League and Continental Cup - a feat Hayes described as ‘an amazing achievement and feeling' but attention quickly shifts to the Champions League and the visit of Juventus on Wednesday as Hayes looks to guide last season’s runners-up to a first Champions League title.

We sit top of Group A after three wins and a draw from our four games, with Juventus second on seven points and Wolfsburg third on five points, meaning all three teams can still qualify.

‘This club should be so proud of this team because they are a special group of players,’ Hayes said.

‘There is so much wisdom, so much experience, camaraderie and spirit in the group. I am super proud.

'To win a domestic treble in this era is a tremendous achievement but for us to sustain what we hope to achieve we have to stay on top of all the little details and make sure everybody keeps moving in the same direction.

‘You can’t be too confident because there is always a defeat around the corner.

‘We have made our first final and have learned from our first final. Playing in Europe is a completely different beast and we are gaining the right experiences and building our confidence.’

However, Hayes said ‘nothing runs smoothly’ and talent only goes part of the way to explaining the success as she looks to win our first Champions League title.

‘We have days where players are upset, not happy with the playing time or didn’t enjoy the session,’ she added.

‘We all want Chelsea to win and do well even if personally sometimes some players don’t get as much [game time] as others. That’s really tough for me because I have to pick the team and I have unhappy players every week.

‘But every single one of those players always sacrifices their egos when it matters and that’s what the secret is.’

Juventus, who we beat 2-1 away in the reverse fixture, pose an ever-improving threat under the guidance of former Arsenal manager Joe Montemurro, according to Hayes.

‘I really rate this team,’ she said. ‘They are improving with every game. They are comfortable being without the ball, they are comfortable sitting in their own half and attacking in the right moments but they won’t be afraid to play.

‘This will be a really, really good game. It’s important for us that every single player is switched on.

‘They want a point so I expect them to play for a point. I expect them to sit in and make it difficult for us. They defend their box very well and are dogged. We are at home in front of our own fans and flying and full of confidence but we respect them. I think they will become a big player in the women’s game.

‘There is no denying I want to win the Champions League,’ she added. ‘But no more than the Women’s Super League, the FA Cup and the Continental Cup because you can’t put your eggs in one basket and in the Champions League we are still relative newcomers.’

Hayes said there were no new injury concerns following Sunday’s exploits, but both defender Maren Mjelde and striker Lauren James would not feature.

‘Everybody has come through,’ Hayes confirmed. 'Maren and Lauren will be the only two that won’t be available.

‘We will take the time needed. Maren still has a little bit of work to do in terms of developing the strength and I don’t think she will play this side of Christmas.

‘For Lauren, she is building progressively. We have seen the quality she has got in the minutes she has been exposed to and we will see the best of her after Christmas.’

The Blues take on Juventus on Wednesday evening at Kingsmeadow and the match kicks off at 8pm. A live video stream of the match will be available on chelseafc.com and The 5th Stand app.
