For the fourth time in his Chelsea career, Jorginho netted two penalties in a game on Saturday to give the Blues a 3-2 win over Leeds United.

Having given us a 2-1 advantage earlier in the second half, the Italy midfielder kept his composure to score again from 12 yards in stoppage time as we secured a hard-fought victory against our long-time rivals in a match simmering with emotion.

But would we have expected any less of our vice-captain? After all, Jorginho has been successful on nearly 90 per cent of his spot-kicks for the Blues since 2018 with his two conversions on Saturday taking his tally to 21 in 24 attempts.

Prior to the weekend, he bagged penalty braces on three previous occasions with his first coming in our memorable Champions League encounter against Ajax in November 2019 when we came from three goals down to earn a point in a 4-4 draw against the Dutch giants.

He went on to repeat the feat in 4-0 victories against Crystal Palace in the Premier League in October 2020 and Malmo in the Champions League two months ago.

However, while converting two penalties in a game may seem a common occurrence for Jorginho, that hasn’t always been the case with only two other Chelsea players managing the feat since the turn of the Millennium.

Timo Werner was on spot-kick duty when we hosted Rennes in the Champions League last season and the German was clinical as he fired home twice in the first half in our 3-0 win.

And Frank Lampard got two of his four goals from the penalty spot when we thrashed Aston Villa 7-0 in March 2010 during our successful late season push which secured the club’s first-ever Premier League and FA Cup Double.

Super Frank had the opportunity for another two-penalty haul when we met Wigan on the final day of that season but after putting away his first attempt to give us a 2-0 lead, he handed the ball to Didier Drogba who also found the net as he went on to win the Premier League’s Golden Boot.

While Eden Hazard successfully converted 26 spot kicks for the Blues, he never got more than one in game although he contributed in three multiple-penalty matches.

The Belgian was on target with David Luiz in a League Cup tie against Manchester United in October 2012, with Didier Drogba in a 6-0 win over Martibor in October 2014 and with Cesc Fabregas in a 4-0 win at Qarabag in November 2017.
