St Mary’s University students in their second year of studying on the Chelsea Foundation Coaching and Development Degree programme delivered a series of activities for college and sixth-form students.

Chelsea Foundation College Programme and Chelsea Champion schools were invited to St Mary’s campus in Twickenham for a futsal tournament, a tour of the campus and talks about the course.

The purpose of the event was to inspire and show the young people on the trip opportunities available to them as they consider various higher education options.

The day from start to finish was run by the students, with the prior planning conducted by students on their Event Management module. The planning team were in charge of the structure of the tournament, the content of the tours and how best to engage with the visiting pupils.

Reflecting on the day, Tom Howard, course lead for the Chelsea Foundation coaching and development degree programme, said: ‘This event was a fantastic opportunity for our second-year students to plan, deliver and evaluate a large-scale event.

‘Their time at university has been largely impacted by Covid-19 restrictions so to see them come together on campus to run such a successful day was excellent.’
