Both Thomas Tuchel and Emma Hayes have made the final shortlist for The Best FIFA Coach awards.

Tuchel is in the running for The Best FIFA Men’s Coach, and Hayes is up for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach following a fantastic 2021 for both Chelsea sides.

Tuchel is joined on the three-man shortlist by Pep Guardiola and Roberto Mancini, while Hayes is up against Barcelona’s Lluis Cortes and England boss Sarina Wiegman for the women’s award.

These two awards are given to the outstanding coach in women’s and men’s football as voted for by an international jury respectively comprising the current coaches of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), the current captains of all women’s/men’s national teams (one per team), one specialist journalist from each territory represented by a national team and fans registered on FIFA.com.

Tuchel is nominated on the back of a spectacular first year in charge at Stamford Bridge in which we won the Champions League and then the Super Cup. He also already been named UEFA Men’s Coach of the Year off the back of our triumph in Porto, and as well as building a formidable collective unit, Tuchel has also got the best out of so many members of his talented squad.

Hayes continued to take Chelsea Women to new heights. Her side won every domestic trophy going in 2021 – the WSL, the FA Cup and the Continental Cup - and for the first time in the club’s history reached the Women’s Champions League final.

Hayes and Tuchel follow goalkeepers Edouard Mendy and Ann-Katrin Berger in being nominated in their respective categories. Nominations for the best players awards will be announced tomorrow (Friday), with the winners’ ceremony taking place in Zurich on Monday 17 January.
