It was with deep sadness that Chelsea Football Club learned of the passing of our dear former colleague Richard Bignell this month.

Richard was much loved within the club and was a very popular and hugely respected member of the wider football and sports broadcasting family. He will be sadly missed by all and the pain of his passing will be felt by many.Richard was employed by Chelsea FC from July 2009 through to September of last year, having worked with the club since 2003, and played a vital role in guiding Chelsea TV’s award-winning and industry-leading production – a fine body of work that covered all of the successes Chelsea teams achieved in that time. He was also instrumental in the successful transition of Chelsea TV from broadcast to digital.Chairman Bruce Buck gave his personal memories of Richard as he shared the sad news with colleagues this week.‘Over the years I had the opportunity to work directly with Richard on a number of different projects and always found him to be hard working, thoughtful, and an all-round good guy,’ he said. ‘During the last few days I had a chance to talk to some of you about Richard and “good guy” is something everybody mentions.’All at Chelsea send our deepest condolences to Richard’s family at this most difficult time. The players will wear black armbands as a tribute during the game against Tottenham on Sunday.
