Twenty-four hours after the final whistle blew on our FA Cup win against Plymouth and 3,500 miles from Stamford Bridge, the Chelsea squad began preparations for our FIFA Club World Cup bid with the first training session in Abu Dhabi.

Match action comes on Wednesday with the Sunday session, on pitches adjacent to the team hotel, split between those who were on a recovery session having seen significant action in the Plymouth game, and longer training for those who did not.

It was perfect conditions for football as the temperature eased with a cool breeze at sunset, as the second half of training took place under the floodlights in front of the spectacular backdrop of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The only member of the 23-strong party not involved was Mason Mount. The other two players who came off yesterday with small problems, Hakim Ziyech and Cesar Azpilicueta, did take part, as did Thiago Silva and Christian Pulisic who were left out of the weekend match squad due to late returns from international duty.

N’Golo Kante, who also was not in the team or on the bench against Plymouth, trained with the group today. Reece James continued to work on his own close by as he rehabilitates from a hamstring injury.

The session was led by the coaching staff in Thomas Tuchel's absence, with our head coach unable to travel to Abu Dhabi with his squad as he continues to follow protocol after testing positive for Covid.
