Two-horse race for Isak

The Blues have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak, according to reports by The Sun.

The Real Sociedad striker has been with the club since 2019 but after an impressive few seasons in La Liga, he is now attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Though a transfer move for the Swedish goalscorer would cost a lot of money, according to The Sun.

‘Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly joined Arsenal in the transfer chase for Alexander Isak,’ the report states.

‘The 22-year-old hotshot has a £75 million buyout clause in his contract and has a host of admirers across the continent.

‘Sociedad were believed to be unwilling to enter talks with any club during the January window unless his release clause was activated,’ the report continues.

‘Isak is tied down to a long-term contract until 2026, meaning the La Liga side have no pressure to sell.’

Mendy shares Senegal celebrations

Edouard Mendy has shared a glimpse of the celebrations that took place in the Senegal team hotel after their AFCON triumph last night.

Senegal won AFCON for the first time in their history after defeating Egypt on penalties, with Edou providing one save that was crucial in the Lions of Teranga’s victory.

Mendy has now become the first goalkeeper ever to keep a clean sheet in the AFCON final and also the Champions League final.

A story by the Daily Mail showcases the party atmosphere in the hotel last night.

‘Chelsea and Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy gave a peak behind the curtain on his Instagram late into the night,’ the report states.

On his Instagram story, Edou can be seen filming the celebrations and enjoying yet more silverware, this time for his national team.

Mendy will now meet up with Chelsea in Abu Dhabi for the Club World Cup, with our first match of the competition taking place on Wednesday.

Chelsea interest prompting Barcelona into Araujo talks

Barcelona’s ‘number one priority’ is to extend Ronald Araujo’s current contract amid links of a possible move to Chelsea.

Goal.com reports that head coach Xavi is incredibly keen to deter any interest from the Blues for the Uruguayan defender by getting him to commit his future to the La Liga giants.

‘The Uruguayan centre-back has less than 18 months left on his contract but the club are hopeful of convincing him to stay for the long term,’ the report states.

‘Barcelona have made tying Ronald Araujo to a contract extension a priority, as coach Xavi insists the defender is the “present and future of the club".’

‘The 22-year-old's current deal expires in June 2023 and it has been reported in Spain that talks over an extension were frozen early in the season.

‘SPORT reported on Saturday that several top teams are interested and that Chelsea are the leading candidates to lure him away from Camp Nou.’
