Edouard Mendy trained with his Chelsea team-mates in Abu Dhabi for the first time today after returning from his victory at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The goalkeeper arrived in the United Arab Emirates yesterday after helping Senegal lift the continental trophy for the first time, but with our FIFA Club World Cup semi-final being played later that day, this was his first chance for a full training session at the team’s base in Abu Dhabi.

He initially trained in a separate session with fellow keepers Marcus Bettinelli and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with the latter the only player who started yesterday’s match out on the training pitch today.

The rest of the squad who featured for at least 45 minutes in the 1-0 win over Al Hilal took part in a recovery session in the gym. The remaining nine members of the squad, including Mason Mount who did a full session after he recovered from injury in time to come off the bench against Al Hilal, were out on the training pitch for some light fitness work before being joined by Mendy and Bettinelli for small-sided games.
