Blues eye Webster move

Chelsea are tracking Brighton defender Adam Webster over a possible transfer, according to the Mirror.

Webster scored the equalising goal in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with the Seagulls in January, and impressed in the centre of defence.

‘Chelsea are mulling over a summer move for in-form Brighton star Adam Webster as they prepare themselves for a defensive shake-up,’ the report states.

‘Central defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen still haven't agreed new deals, and nor has right-back and captain Cesar Azpilicueta.

‘The Blues are weighing up a number of options to cover any or all departures,' the report continues.

‘And Webster is among those under consideration after impressing at the Amex Stadium following his move from Bristol City in 2019.

‘The 27-year-old has been tipped for a call-up to Gareth Southgate's England squad, such has been his form.'

Kante's touch of class

N’Golo Kante asked to meet Al Ahly and Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng after Chelsea’s Club World Cup triumph on Saturday.

Dieng has represented Mali internationally since 2015, and with Kante being of Malian descent, he wanted to meet the midfielder who also plays a similar role in the team to Kante.

Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane tweeted a photo of the pair after Chelsea added yet another trophy to our cabinet.

‘I was amazed by Kante asking me if I could get Dieng to meet him,’ he wrote.

‘Humility at its best. God Bless Kante!’

Drogba reveals Lukaku chat

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has offered his support for our no.9 Romelu Lukaku and hopes winning the Club World Cup will help bring the best out of him.

Romelu scored his 10th goal of the campaign on Saturday, becoming our top scorer in all competitions. He has now scored 10+ goals in 10 consecutive seasons.

‘He took his responsibility to talk and put a bit more pressure on himself and delivered tonight, scoring an important goal,’ Drogba told The Guardian.

‘Every player always has something to prove and will always want to do better but he scored the goal to give us the lead and I’m happy with this performance,’ the Ivorian added.

‘He put himself under a certain pressure because coming back to the club where you start was difficult, and you come back because you want to prove a point.

‘But he’s winning and I think he’s going to make it.’

Didier also said he hopes the Belgian can learn from his own playing career.

‘I hope he learned from me,’ Drogba added. ‘He’s a goalscorer. He’s having a difficult moment, but bouncing back [and] this kind of trophy will bring his confidence back.

‘When we have the time to speak I give him some advice, but after that it’s his career, it’s his responsibilities now. It’s him now. He’s in charge of the attacking players, so he has to find the ideas and make it his own story.’
