Defender Malang Sarr has spoken of his immense pride of being named a World Champion while also praising the attitude of his team-mates in the victory over Palmeiras.

The Frenchman was introduced to the action in extra-time on Saturday and now has a Club World Cup winners medal to accompany his Super Cup medal he picked up in August.

‘It is an amazing feeling, I have no words. If I try to say something about it, I will need a couple of minutes to tell you!’ Malang said.

‘I am so proud. I am happy for myself and also for the squad because we worked so hard.

‘The work level was pushing us and giving us the best preparation to perform and be the best on the pitch and that is what we did.’

Sarr also reacted to the match against the Brazilian side, which went all the way to 120 minutes.

‘I think it was a really tough game against a really good opponent,’ Sarr said. ‘At the end of the day, we prepared for a tough game and we need the details to win the game and that is what happened.

‘That is my mentality and that’s the mentality for every player, to be available when the manager needs you,' added the Frenchman. 'You have got to try and play well and help the team as much as you can.’

When asked on whether Palmeiras or Al Hilal were a tougher opponent, Sarr couldn’t separate the sides due to each other’s qualities.

‘It is difficult to say because they have different strengths and they were different styles of games and to be fair, both teams were so difficult to face,' he added. 'Both games were close and this is what it is all about.

‘They are all good teams, from Asia, South America and everyone is a great team so I am not surprised to see teams at this level.’
