Kai Havertz was pleased to make another big contribution on the continental stage and now the German is looking forward to trying to help the Blues lift more silverware on Sunday.

Havertz headed us in front against Lille in the eighth minute, setting the tone for a professional performance where we didn’t hit top gear but secured an important 2-0 lead to take to France next month.

Following on from his winning penalty in the Club World Cup earlier this month, and of course his decider in the final of this competition last season, Havertz was left satisfied he could make another positive impact while leading the line for Chelsea.

‘I always give my best, also in Premier League games, sometimes you have more luck, sometimes no, but I help where I can,’ he said after the win.

‘We have a lot of good strikers. It’s good to have a change to not make it easy for the opponent. It worked good, but I enjoy every position.

‘We didn’t play our best football,’ added Havertz of the collective performance.

‘It was hard. We could not get the aggressivity in the pitch we have had the last three weeks, so it was hard, but we won 2-0 in the end and that’s the most important thing.’

Our busy fixture schedule this season means there is barely time to pause for thought before the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Our two league games against Liverpool this season produced entertaining draws - Havertz scoring in the Anfield meeting back in August - and our no.29 wants to pick up a third piece of silverware of the season at Wembley.

‘We keep on going, we have another competition on Sunday, and we have to focus on that.

‘It’s crazy, we have another chance to win a trophy on Sunday. It will be a tough game. We are excited. We will put all our plans together and hope we win this game.’
