Chelsea are back in FA Youth Cup action this week following our dramatic 4-3 come-from-behind victory at Liverpool last time out, a result that brought to mind some memorable past comebacks from yesteryear in this competition.
Blackpool are the visitors to Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening, kick-off 6pm, for a quarter-final tie that pits the Blues against the Tangerines for the first time in the Youth Cup's 70-year history. Tickets are still available for the tie priced at just £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
Our young Blues showed great fight and resilience to rally back in the last 20 minutes of our fifth-round game against Liverpool last time out, overturning a 3-0 deficit with 20 minutes remaining to triumph on Merseyside.
Charlie Webster kicked things off with a slightly deflected effort from distance which landed in the bottom corner of the net before Jude Soonsup-Bell's well-timed header gave us our second goal.
Second-half substitute Malik Mothersille grabbed the equaliser in inadvertent circumstances as a clearance in the box went in off his backside before the comeback was completed by another substitue, Tudor Mendel-Idowu, as he turned the ball in with an outstretched leg from a Silko Thomas cross.
With that memorable mind still fresh in the mind, we take a look back at some of our previous great comebacks in this competition...
Fulham, 2013/14
One of our most memorable comebacks in this competition came in the 2014 final as Adi Viveash's side fought back from 4-2 down on aggregate to seal the win and lift the trophy.
With opponents Fulham two goals ahead going into the final 13 minutes at Stamford Bridge, up stepped Swedish teenager Isak Ssewankambo with a vital equaliser. This was followed up by a Dominic Solanke brace in the 82nd and 90th minutes of the game as we lifted the trophy after a 5-3 win on the night, 7-6 on aggregate.
Andreas Christensen and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were also part of the Chelsea side for that triumph, which captivated over 13,000 supporters inside the Bridge.
Charlton, 2012/13
The Addicks were able to grab two quick-fire goals in the first half which gave our boys a mountain to climb at the Valley in the fourth round. However, second-half goals from Christensen and Alex Kiwomya sent the tie into extra time.
Substitute Connor Hunte was the match-winner in this one as he scored our third in the 109th minute to seal one of our greatest Youth Cup comebacks.
Nottingham Forest, 2011/12
Our youngsters had a terrible start at the City Ground as they found themselves 3-0 down after only 43 minutes. However, we fought back bravely to get ourselves back into the contest, with Brazilian Lucas Piazon on hand to finish for the first goal to spark the comeback effort.
Striker Islam Feruz then grabbed an eight-minute brace and, moments later, Kiwomya completed the job to secure a memorable comeback in the quarter-finals. Viveash's side went on to lift the trophy against Blackburn Rovers, our second triumph in three years.
Reputation for comebacks
The class of 2022 have built a reputation of their own this season for being able to fight back from adversity. In our most recent Under-18 Premier League Cup fixture against Manchester United, Ed Brand's side recovered from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2.
In fact, in the four games that our young Blues have played in that cup competition this season, we have surrendered the first goal in all of them. More impressively, we have yet to lose a game in the competition and are through to a semi-final against Stoke City next month.
