Blues considering Dembele move

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer this summer.

Thomas Tuchel is known to have a positive relationship with Dembele following their time together at Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by the Metro, Chelea are moving in the right direction to sign the Frenchman at the end of the season.

‘Chelsea have opened talks to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer, according to reports in Spain,’ the report states.

‘The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is yet to reach an agreement over a new deal with Barca.

‘According to Sport, Chelsea have now made contact with Dembele’s representatives to discuss a move to Stamford Bridge as a free agent this summer.’

However, Dembele allegedly wants to stay at Barcelona.

‘The report claims that Dembele has told his Barcelona team-mates that he wants to extend his stay at the club, but the winger’s entourage are still holding talks with clubs across Europe.

‘Alongside Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus are also holding negotiations over a deal for Dembele,’ the report adds.

Hughes joins League Two side

Former Chelsea player Mark Hughes has returned to management to take the vacant Bradford City job.

‘Bradford City AFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Mark Hughes OBE - as the club’s new first-team manager,’ a statement on the club’s official website said.

He has signed a contract until the summer of 2024, having taken charge of over 450 top-flight matches.

‘With over 150 Premier League victories and eight top-10 finishes, Hughes boasts a record of having managed the seventh-highest total of Premier League fixtures in history.

‘He will observe training at the club’s Woodhouse Grove base this morning, before taking his first session tomorrow (Friday) and being in the dugout on Saturday for the Bantams’ Sky Bet League Two visit of Mansfield Town.

‘I am really pleased to be here and am looking forward to the role, and the job in hand. It has been an exciting few days,’ Hughes told the club’s website.

‘We want to move the club and everybody with it forward, and hope we can have the success everyone wants.'

Klopp's early team news

Jurgen Klopp has all but confirmed which of his goalkeepers will start in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday.

Back-up shot-stopper Caoimhin Kelleher has played in every round so far in the competition and his manager has said he will be keeping the faith in him this weekend.

The Irishman saved two penalties in the Reds’s penalty shoot-out win against Leicester City in the quarter-final stages.

A report by the Daily Mail highlights Klopp’s quotes ahead of the clash.

‘Klopp had made it clear that Kelleher, his back-up goalkeeper, would be given the gloves for the big day against Chelsea, not Alisson Becker,’ the article states.

‘I don’t see any reason why we should not do this,’ said Klopp. ‘He deserves it. He brought the team here.’
