Thomas Tuchel is only looking forwards after Sunday’s cruel Carabao Cup final defeat and believes the strong performance from his side will ensure the players don’t dwell on the disappointment for too long.

The German spoke post-match of his immense pride of the team’s performance at Wembley and the boss now wants his players to move swiftly on to the next challenge, with a win against Luton Town in the FA Cup only increasing our chances of a return to the national stadium in May.

‘Lifting the team after Sunday should not be too hard. Everybody knows we played a strong match, we played to our identity, with full commitment and a lot of quality.

‘You can never control the result, a winner has to be found, after 22 penalties, that tells the story more or less.’

Tuchel confirmed that Chelsea players were given Monday off to rest and recover, but the squad have been back at Cobham this morning to prepare for the trip to Kenilworth Road tomorrow.

‘We gave a day off to clear our minds. It was not only a disappointment, but it was physically draining and also physically demanding for us.

‘This leaves us with a one-day turnaround, but this is what it is all about. It’s the next competition and the next round. This is life at Chelsea,’ the Bavarian said as he spoke to the media this afternoon.

After tomorrow’s FA Cup fifth round match the Blues will have competed in five different competitions in as many games, after Club World Cup, Premier League, Champions League and Carabao Cup commitments.

‘We want to be competitive in different competitions, so we have to be ready tomorrow. It is not always easy. This is what we demand and of course everybody around the team and last but not least, the players.’
