Jonna Andersson on Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League win against Aston Villa, the title race and more…

Jonna Andersson was part of a last-gasp victory against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. Sam Kerr netted a 92nd-minute equaliser as the race for the WSL title intensifies.

Chelsea sit second, five points behind Arsenal, but we have played two games fewer.

Speaking after our latest win, Andersson said: ‘I am so happy, it wasn’t the prettiest game but we fight until the end and I think that shows that we really want to win the league.

‘It was a tough game, we didn’t play pretty, but we still got the goal and we have the three points!’

Our No.25 believes the Blues have a strong mentality and picked up the win when in previous years we may not have ground a result out.

‘We always have that feeling, we know we have had tough seasons where it has been 0-0 and we’re trying to get the goal and it’s still going to end up as a draw. Now, I really felt that it was coming, and we pushed for it and we put a centre-back up top!

‘We just had the feeling that it’s going to come, and we just stick together as a team and I’m really proud of the performance even if it’s not the best one football-wise! So yeah, I’m very happy.’

Hayes’ side have seven games remaining this season and Andersson stresses just how important each win is as we edge closer and closer to the final day.

‘All the points are really, really important and we show the character, we want to win the league and we have to win all the games, so it was really important.’

Hannah Hampton in the Aston Villa goal was kept busy for the 90 minutes with the Blues creating chance after chance.

‘She is really good and we knew that before as well. If we put a cross in or a shot, we know that she’s going to save most of them! So, it was so nice when we got a goal behind her.’

The Blues are back in action on Wednesday evening with a trip to Everton in the WSL. Andersson is expecting another tricky game against the Toffees.

‘We need to expect a tough game again, they have points to fight for as well so we just need to recover now but then focus on the next game and try to play our football again and then try to just get the points.’
