Bethany England scored a brace in our 5-0 thrashing of Birmingham City in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday, and the striker has reflected on the dominant performance…

Goals from Magdalena Eriksson, Drew Spence, Niamh Charles and England wrapped up victory to secure our spot in the final four of the competition.

Speaking after the game, England said: ‘I’m really proud of the clean sheet first and foremost. They made it difficult in the first half, we had some half decent chances but not clear-cut ones so to get that goal just before half-time was important for us to kick on with the momentum in the second half.

‘We really turned the gear up a bit and managed to get some good team goals in, so I’m really chuffed for everyone.’

Birmingham City currently sit bottom of the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, however fought off Championship sides Sunderland and Durham to reach the quarter-final stage.

‘We knew even though Birmingham are bottom of the league, it doesn’t mean anything. They’ve shown that they can show up against big teams and they are dangerous on the counter,’ England said.

Our No.9 scored our third and fourth goal while assisting Charles in our fifth and was pleased to be back in and around the goals again.

‘Obviously a striker always wants to score but I was just happy to be out there today playing with the girls. Two goals and an assist is a good day in the office for me.’

The Blues have won the FA Cup three times overall and England says the team have their sights set on making it back-to-back trophy lifts, after beating Arsenal in the 2020/21 final in December.

‘We want to retain this trophy, we obviously fell short in the Conti Cup so we’re hungry to go back for this one and we’re just really happy to be in to the next round.’

Emma Hayes’ side have had a relentless run of fixtures this month, the clash against Birmingham was the fifth game the Blues had played since the start of March.

On the run of fixtures, England said: ‘It’s good for us but also can put a lot of stress on us, thankfully we’ve got such a good strength and depth in quality in the team that whoever we’re rotating, they’re going to do the job.

‘This game proved that, I was really chuffed for Drew getting her 50th goal, Maren coming on, Magda’s first start again from injury, Alsu coming on, Lauren coming on so it’s really important these players are getting their minutes and performing as well.’

Emma Hayes’ team are back in action on Wednesday when we host Tottenham Hotspur at Kingsmeadow, kicking off at 7.45pm (UK time).

The game against Spurs will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football, with coverage starting from 7pm and you can follow all the match action over on our social channels @ChelseaFCW.
