The Blues have now won our last four competitive games. Hayes made six changes to the team as goals from Magdalena Eriksson, Drew Spence, Bethany England and Niamh Charles booked our place in the last four of this year’s competition.

After the game the Chelsea boss reflected on the dominant performance.

‘One of the challenges when you rotate teams is to be able to perform at the same levels and at times this year the team have known when I’ve not been happy about it, today I was happy with it,’ she said.

‘I felt we’ve learned the lessons of the past in terms of what you have to do to work the opponent down. We were worthy of a 1-0 win in the first half, but not because of the chances we created, the opponent made it difficult in their block. We worked them so hard, by the time the second half came we’d done that hard work to create the chances.’

Drew Spence got the Blues’ second of the afternoon, slotting the ball past Marie Hourihan to net her 50th Chelsea goal.

Speaking on our No.24’s achievement, Hayes added: ‘As for Drew, Drew’s a legend of this club and everybody’s delighted for her to get her 50th.’

The boss was also pleased with the consistency of Bethany England, who scored a brace and played a dominant role in yesterday’s win.

‘I’m really happy for Beth, she has been really consistent this side of Christmas and the players know this with me, when there’s consistency in the performance more happens, and that’s what I expect everyday on the training pitch.

‘Beth has been really, really good in training and I’m not surprised by those goals, I’m really happy for her. I thought she worked hard off the ball for the team too.

‘All-round, everybody contributed to that win.’

The draw for the semi-final takes place this evening, live on BBC News Sports Day programme from 6.30pm.

Arsenal, Manchester City and West Ham have all reached the final four.

Attention for the Blues now turns to Wednesday’s Women’s Super League clash against Tottenham Hotspur, as the Blues have the chance to go top of the league with a win against Spurs.
