Christian Pulisic is one of many players to have seen an upturn in his Chelsea form in recent weeks, with a goal in both legs of our Champions League knockout tie against Lille, and Thomas Tuchel believes the American is now starting to take more responsibility on the pitch.
‘Christian was in the same situation as Kai,' the Bavarian said. 'Both of them took the responsibility for the turnaround, so it is their responsibility, and they deserve the credit. They did amazingly and you can see it on the pitch.
‘If the players step up their responsibility on a daily basis and fight heavily for it and accept no excuses for themselves, and dig into the situation and dig their way out, then they will have our full support.
‘Once this happens it is of course sometimes a give and take, and then a positive cycle of improvement and support and you get the positive feedback and that is where Christian is at the moment.
‘It is important, he is decisive and that is what we demand at the same time. We will keep on pushing them.’
Christian’s link-up in particular with Mason Mount and Havertz since the turn of the year has been impressive.
The trio were the three attackers selected by Tuchel in our last Wembley visit, in the Carabao Cup final, and Tuchel says there is no substitute for such experiences for the three attackers.
‘Yes, it is incredible [their experience at such a young age]. There is no substitute for it. It is the best because you can grow so much with these experiences. There are many ways to grow, but this is really accelerating the process of their development and it is good to see that they’re ready to take responsibility and step up. It is so good to have them,’ Tuchel said.
‘At their ages, they are far from reaching their top level, and there is so much more to come. We are proud to have them.’
