Trevoh Chalobah and Kai Havertz have both been nominated for the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month award for March.

The duo are recognised for efforts at both ends of the field, with Havertz involved in five goals across three matches this month, while Chalobah has helped us to two clean sheets and also chipped in with the opener away at Norwich City.

Our silky German is possibly in the best form of his Chelsea career to date, having been deployed up front by Thomas Tuchel. He has scored six goals in eight matches stretching back to mid-February.

His efforts this month include netting in all three Premier League matches played, including a brace in our 4-0 victory at Burnley and the late winner against Newcastle United, as well as setting up Mason Mount for our second away at Norwich. No player has scored more for the Blues since the start of last season.

The pick of Havertz’s five league strikes in March, both for technical execution and significance, came in the 89th minute of our narrow win against Newcastle when he brought down Jorginho’s pass and finished instinctively, almost all in one swift stunning movement. Afterwards, a purring Tuchel labelled it ‘an exceptional goal’, praising his forward’s confidence and composure.

At Carrow Road, the 23-year-old also notched late to secure the points in a 3-1 win with another left-footed strike, this time hammered into the top corner from 12 yards out. A few days earlier, Havertz had been the toast of Turf Moor with a quickfire double in Lancashire, the first a clever header at the back post and the second a predatory close-range finish from inside the six-yard box.

Chalobah also started in that fine victory at Burnley, keeping the Clarets at bay to secure another clean sheet for the Blues on the road. The defender played every minute of our league campaign in March and netted his fourth Chelsea goal, the first away from Stamford Bridge, with a header to open the scoring against the Canaries.

He also registered an assist in teeing up Reece James against Burnley at the start of the month, while slotting in effortlessly in defence, even at right-back during the first half of the Newcastle match.

Havertz and Chalobah are up against Matty Cash (Aston Villa), Harry Kane, Dejan Kulusevski (both Tottenham), Andy Robertson (Liverpool), Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) and Ivan Toney (Brentford).

Voting is open now until 12 noon on Monday 28 March, with the winner announced later that week.
