With the news that Arsenal Women’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend has been postponed, a win for the Blues on Sunday could see us leapfrog the Gunners and top the WSL table for the first time this season.

Our fixture against Spurs midweek was also postponed, due to positive Covid-19 cases in the Tottenham squad set up.

Speaking at Cobham this afternoon, Hayes said: ‘We’ve had a good couple of days, I think everybody got over the disappointment [of the postponement] quite quickly and trained well.

‘Again, we’ve had good numbers in training, I think the intensity has been great. Everything that we’re working towards, our focus is on Sunday.’

The boss provided a fitness update, revealing both Pernille Harder and Fran Kirby have been ruled out of Sunday’s clash with the Foxes.

‘Pernille and Fran are still absent from the team, other than that everybody else is fit.’

The Blues will take on Lydia Bedford’s Leicester side at the King Power, an opportunity Hayes says her team are relishing.

‘Amazing stadium to go to, really looking forward to that. It’s an amazing facility and one that I know our players will relish playing at.’

Hayes’ side tasted recent success against Leicester in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup as we recorded an emphatic 7-0 victory over the Foxes to progress through to the next round.

‘I think when we played them at home, especially for the first 20 minutes while they had 11 players on the pitch they were a really, really tough, aggressive team, created chances,' noted the boss.

‘For us, we just need to keep building upon the good work that we’re doing and try to cause problems to their back three.

‘They’re at home, they’re going to be confident about that. Under Lydia Bedford they’re a team that’s really improved their way of playing. For us, we’re in a good rhythm – it’s in a good point of our season, we’re playing well. The team knows it’s the last stretch and we know what we have to do.’

The Foxes are in their first WSL season and Hayes believes they will build upon their debut campaign in the top-flight.

‘They’ve recovered well after a slow start, I think they will remain in the division and I’m pretty sure they’ll build on that success with more recruitment and more quality for next season.’

The recent news from the UK Government permits the club to sell tickets to supporters again, an announcement welcomed by the boss.

‘It’s massive, they know how much I enjoy them being there. The team love them, certainly their noise going into the final few games is going to be absolutely critical so I welcome them back in with us.’

Sunday’s game against the Foxes kicks off at 3pm and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event, Sky Sports Premier League and Sky Sports Football.
