Honeywell Junior School from Wandsworth and St John’s Walham Green from Fulham emerged victorious in Chelsea FC Foundation’s Under-11 mixed and girls Premier League Primary Stars football tournaments recently.

Both schools will go on to represent Chelsea at the national finals which will be held at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road on Sunday 17 May. The schools will compete against representatives from the 19 other Premier League clubs in a festival of football which, for many, will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

More than 60 of our partner primary schools took part in our regional mixed and girls football tournaments held in London and Surrey, where schools battled it out to represent Chelsea at the finals in May.

Teams played off against each other in a league format style, with young leaders at Southfields Academy, who are taking part in our Premier League Inspires programme on hand to referee, highlighting a great example of cross-programme collaboration for the Foundation.

Sam Mardle, Chelsea Foundation’s schools education manager, said: 'Thank you to all of the schools who took part – everyone should be very proud of their achievements in getting to this point! Both schools are very worthy winners, and we look forward to supporting them from now, and at the National Final at Vicarage Road.

‘Additionally, a huge thank you to the PE Department, and Young Leaders from Southfields Academy, they refereed our games to a great standard, and we are really proud that we able to show evidence of programme progression, some of these having previously taken part in our PL Primary Stars Tournament when they were at primary school.’

Angela O’Connor, deputy headteacher, added: ‘I just wanted to say a huge thank you from all of us for organising the girls’ tournament. It was just wonderful! Our girls have come to school this morning with the most amazing confidence and belief.’

These tournaments are able to be staged thanks to the support of the Premier League Charitable Fund for the delivery of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.
