Ruben Loftus-Cheek helped Chelsea match a club record when he opened the scoring in our FA Cup semi-final victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday as he became the 20th player to score for the Blues in a competitive match this season.

The midfielder struck with a brilliant half-volley 20 minutes into the second half to break the deadlock against the Eagles as he found the net for Chelsea for the first time since May 2019. That also came in a semi-final when we drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt at Stamford Bridge before edging the German side in a penalty shoot-out to reach the Europa League final.

With Loftus-Cheek joining the list of Chelsea marksmen this season, Thomas Tuchel’s squad of 2021/22 equalled the club record of 20 different scorers which was first set in the 2015/16 season.

Kai Havertz is our current leading scorer with 13 goals, one ahead of Romelu Lukaku and Mason Mount, who netted his 12th of the campaign with our second goal against Palace at Wembley.

Timo Werner is the other player on double digits with 10 after finding the net in last week’s 3-2 victory at Real Madrid but there have been contributions from throughout the squad with Lukaku, Trevoh Chalobah, Saul and Andreas Christensen all netting their first goals for the club.

Along with Cesar Azpilicueta, Loftus-Cheek is one of only two players in our current squad who also scored for the Blues in 2015/16. He netted his first goal at senior level in a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe in the FA Cup before bagging his first Premier League goal in a 4-0 victory at Aston Villa.

Kenedy also scored his first two Chelsea goals that season but is one of a small minority of players in the current side who have yet to get on the scoresheet in this campaign.

However, if the Brazilian, Malang Sarr, Ross Barkley or one of our Academy youngster was to get a goal in our remaining games, the team of 2021/22 would set a new mark for most Chelsea scorers in a single season.
