The Blues were beaten by our London rivals in an action-packed Premier League encounter, which saw Arsenal twice take the lead in the first half through Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe before being pegged back by Timo Werner and Cesar Azpilicueta.

Chelsea were much the stronger side in the first half but sloppy mistakes cost the Blues as Mikel Arteta’s wrapped up the points after the break through another strike from Nketiah and a Bukayo Saka penalty.

Christensen, who saw his under-hit backpass latched onto by Nketiah for the opening goal, shouldered full responsibility for that incident and felt that the entire team were guilty of uncharacteristic individual mistakes.

‘Since Thomas arrived at the club, we’ve always been strong defensively,’ Christensen said post-match.

‘That’s been our base to work from and then knowing that our quality up front guarantees goals. Being solid at the back has always been a priority and recently, it’s been kind of the opposite.

‘We spoke about it in the dressing room, because we’ve now conceded 10 goals in our last three home games and that’s nowhere near good enough.

‘I take 100 per cent responsibility on my shoulders for the first goal, it was my mistake, but luckily for me we got back into the game quite quickly through Timo’s goal. We kept making mistakes though and it’s hard to keep bouncing back.

‘I think we have to take a look at ourselves in the mirror because that performance wasn’t good enough and we know we can play a lot better than that. We can only blame ourselves for this result.

‘We know we are better than this and for me personally, I know I can perform so much better than I what I showed. We need to pick our heads up and go again now.’

There was a reduced crowd inside Stamford Bridge due to the current sanctions on the Owner and Christensen feels that any frustrations felt by the supporters can be justified following a London derby defeat.

However the Dane is hoping to put some smiles back on the faces of the fans on Sunday, when we have the chance to get back to winning ways when West Ham visit Stamford Bridge.

Christensen is also hoping for a strong end to the current campaign, with the defender challenging the Blues to cement a third-placed finish in the Premier League and to lift the FA Cup in May.

‘Everyone wants the best for the club and there’s a lot of passion from us and from the fans, which is how it should be,’ Andreas added.

‘I can understand any frustrations because tonight we weren’t good enough and we know we have to do a lot better. We want to do this for the fans because we are all proud to play for this club.

‘We have to go again and I’m sure the fans will be there again at the weekend to support us, which we need.

‘We have to stay focused because we want to finish the season strongly and ensure that we finish third. We’ve also got a cup final at Wembley that we want to win, so there’s still a lot of important games left for us to play this season.

‘We need to look at ourselves after this result and then move onto the next game. We want to finish third and win a trophy not just for ourselves, but for the fans as well because they are so passionate for this club.’
