Our development squad are in Lancashire this afternoon for a potentially decisive game in their fight for Premier League 2 survival...

The young Blues currently sit in the bottom two with just two games of the season remaining, the first of which comes at Ewood Park this lunchtime followed by our hosting of Tottenham next weekend.

Andy Myers's side will leapfrog Leeds United into a position of safety with three points against Rovers. The Whites played their final game of the campaign on Friday, a 1-1 draw with Arsenal, meaning they finish the term on 27 points. Chelsea are on 25 points with six still available, while already-relegated Derby County have 15.

However, given our inferior goal difference in comparison with Leeds, Myers's men know they need to beat either Blackburn or Spurs in order to retain top-flight status in the development league.

Last time out

The Blues won for the first time in 10 matches and picked up a timely three points on the road at Brighton thanks to goals from Lewis Hall and Jayden Wareham.

It was a hard-fought display that required counter-attacking thrust, discipline and focus, particularly throughout the final 10 minutes when the Seagulls reduced the arrears to 2-1.

The reverse fixture

These two sides met previously back at the start of October when Blackburn came away from Cobham with a 1-0 win courtesy of an early penalty. Xavier Simons saw red for the hosts, while Lewis Baker, George McEachran and Charly Musonda all featured.

The opposition

Based on their early-season form, Blackburn looked like prime candidates for relegation themselves as they struggled for consistency. However, the young Lancastrians are now one of the form teams in the league with four wins in their last five.

With nothing to play for after comfortably avoiding a relegation fight, our development squad will look to get the job done against them today, rather than going into the final round of fixtures with uncertainty.

How to follow

Supporters in the area can attend the fixture at Ewood Park for free, with kick-off at 1pm. There will also be coverage on the official Chelsea website and The 5th Stand app shortly after the final whistle on what could be a big day for our youngsters.
