With kick-off fast approaching for the U18 Premier League Cup final against Fulham this evening, Ed Brand shared some of his thoughts on the occasion and his team’s season.

The match is at Craven Cottage with a 7pm kick-off. Chelsea won this competition in its inaugural season in 2017/18 and beat Blackburn, Reading and drew with Reading in the group stage this season, before knocking out Man United and Stoke to reach the final.

It is worth mentioning that our young Blues have not beaten Fulham this season with a 4-4 draw being the scoreline in the first encounter earlier in the league season and a 2-0 loss in the most recent meeting. To add to this the young Cottagers come into this final having won seven of the last eight, which is impressive form from Ali Melloul’s side.

Nevertheless, our young Blues have shown great character throughout this season with the number of comebacks that they can be proud of.

Head coach of our Under-18s Ed Brand, giving his thoughts on the final, emphasised the importance of the squad.

‘We have used a number of players in this competition across the age groups and they can all be proud that they have played a major part in how we have got to this final,' he said.

‘From players who predominantly have been with the Under-16s and other squad members who have featured for the Under-23s, having the trust to call upon any player dependant on availability has truly made my job easier.’

Brand has called upon the likes of Charlie Webster and Lewis Hall who both have Under-23 minutes under their belt, with the latter even making his men's first team senior debut. Noah Hay has also featured in this competition despite being with the Under-16s for most of the season.

Although playing against a team in form, Brand wants his players to channel their disappointment from one tournament and put it into another.

‘We were very disappointed as a team not to make it to the final of the FA Youth Cup as with a lead going into the final five minutes of our semi-final, it was not far-fetched to assume that we could see this game out.’

‘With this in mind, we will come into this game highly motivated to put out a performance worthy of champions with the ultimate aim of bringing the trophy back to Cobham. Cup finals are one-off games, and anything can happen so we must be prepared’

Tickets are still available for this fixture and are priced at £5 for adults and £2 for concessions.
