Chelsea Women striker Sam Kerr has been voted the Barclays FA Women’s Super League Player of the Month for April.

The Australian international beat the other nominees which included her own team-mate Jessie Fleming, plus Rachel Corsie (Aston Villa), Beth Mead (Arsenal), Louise Quinn (Birmingham City), Khadija Shaw (Manchester City) and Caroline Weir (Manchester City), in no small part due to her prolific goalscoring which has helped the Blues stay ahead in a title race to be decided this Sunday.

Kerr netted four times in three WSL fixtures last month, with two those goals coming in a game against Reading and one in each game as we defeated Tottenham away and at home in consecutive fixtures. Those strikes took her total to 18 league goals in 18 games this season and 28 in all competitions.Kerr won this honour for the same month last year and a week ago was named as the winner of the prestigious Football Writers’ Association Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
