With the summer break underway for our players, we take a look at what some of the Chelsea men’s and women’s squad have been up to in the early days of their time away from Cobham…

While a few have headed straight to the beach for a well-deserved rest, Edouard Mendy has been in Switzerland as guest speaker at the World Economic Forum.

Our goalkeeper joined the likes of former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, FIFA president Gianni Infantino and legendary Brazilian Ronaldo as part of an exclusive panel discussing what football can do to deepen its role as a unifying force against a challenging global backdrop.

‘Football is a sport which brings together more people at any given time than any other sport,’ Mendy said at the conference. ‘It has the power to transmit and instil values in young people. They see us as an example, as role models.’

Mendy, who won the African Cup of Nations with Senegal earlier in the year, also reflected on the importance of representation in elite sport, adding: ‘When you see African players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, who really play at the highest possible level, then we talk about the best world players not just the best African players.

‘I think this is what we need to focus on. They are true examples and give hope to young people, making them desire to work and exceed the limits to achieve one goal. This is how football has impacted on social levels in all countries around the world.’

Elsewhere, Trevoh Chalobah has been taking in the flicks at the Cannes Film Festival in France. The defender was pictured suited and booted on the red carpet in an eye-catching outfit.

Ben Chilwell has been spending his time off in more conventional fashion on the beach. The England international made his comeback from a long-term injury as a late substitute against Watford before jetting off for a break in Greece.

In a post on social media, the 25-year-old is seen with a ball at his feet by the shoreline with the setting sun in the background.

Ross Barkley has been maintaining his fitness with some hard graft in Portugal, while our German trio of Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger have joined an international training camp ahead of UEFA Nations League fixtures next month.

Meanwhile, our Chelsea Women players have been enjoying themselves too following a Double-winning campaign. Erin Cuthbert was in Seville supporting Rangers ahead of their Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, which the Scottish side lost 5-4 on penalties. The 23-year-old started her career north of the border with the Gers prior to her 2017 move to Chelsea.

Cuthbert then made the short trip to Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, where she linked up with team-mate Sam Kerr and spent time with the McLaren team. The pair also bumped into another famous footballing face, local striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who moved to the Catalans from Arsenal back in January.
