We continue to keep abreast with what the Chelsea players are getting up to during their time off from club football…

Mason Mount made the most of a weekend off by visiting Monaco for the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, meeting world champion Max Verstappen and race winner Sergio Perez.

The England international was attending his first F1 event as a guest of the Red Bull racing team, even dressing for the occasion in an eye-catching outfit resembling the famous chequered flag.

The 23-year-old was joined by Three Lions team-mate Phil Foden, as well as Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Manchester City’s Ruben Dias, for the glitzy race, which Perez won after a downpour delayed the start and forced strategy rethinks throughout.

Lando Norris was also paid a visit after the pair hit it off over social media, with Mount even sending the McLaren driver an England shirt before last summer’s Euro 2020 finals.

Speaking prior to qualifying on Saturday, Mount revealed how he was enjoying the occasion but struggling with the heat.

‘We saw them [Verstappen and Perez] at practice and had a little conversation with both of them, they’re really good guys,’ he said.

‘I was just saying how hot it is, it’s boiling out here, and they were saying it’s so hot in the car.’

Mount also expressed his excitement at the new era dawning at Stamford Bridge, one which he hopes will bring continued success for the club and allow us to challenge once again for major honours next season.

‘We were obviously in and around it until about midway through,’ he added of the title race. ‘It was disappointing that we fell off a bit but that’s the goal for next season - we want to close that gap and be up there.

‘It’s an exciting time now with the new owners being confirmed. The era under Roman [Abramovich] has been brilliant and now we look forward. It’s exciting stuff and I can’t wait to get back to it.’

Also in Monaco enjoying the F1 was Kepa Arrizabalaga, another keen racing fan in the Blues dressing room. Mount will now link up with the England squad ahead of UEFA Nations League fixtures against Hungary, Germany and Italy in June.
