Christian Pulisic and the USA national team needed a late equaliser in their CONCACAF Nations League match with El Salvador last night to maintain their unbeaten start to Group D.

The Chelsea forward played the entire 90 minutes on the left-wing in a game which saw both sides reduced to 10 men in the second half.

El Salvador took the lead on 35 minutes from a somewhat bizarre cross from Alexandar Larin. The full-back had fired a ball in from the left-hand side, a cross that looped over Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath’s head and into the net.

The visitors then went down to 10 men as Paul Arriola was given his marching orders following a bad tackle on Larin. They were only a player light for a further nine minutes, though, as El Salvador’s Ronald Rodriguez was next to be sent off, after being adjudged to have been the last man in a tangle of legs with Yunus Musah.

That gave Pulisic’s USA just over 10 minutes to search for an equaliser, and they did just that as Seattle Sounders striker Jordan Morris nodded home in stoppage time.

USA now sit second in Group D, with El Salvador topping the table with five points, compared to the USA’s four. Grenada are the other team competing in Group D.

Pulisic and USA have now completed their build-up to the 2022 World Cup, in which they will play their opening match in November, against Wales in Group B. The American may then compete against some of his fellow Blues team-mates, as England and Iran make up their World Cup group in Qatar this winter.
