• Football wasn’t the only sport Rogers showed plenty of talent for as a child, also being a keen cricketer as a schoolboy and turning down trials to play for Worcestershire to concentrate on his football career.

• Rogers is an old friend of his England international team-mate Jude Bellingham, after both players grew up in the Dudley area of the West Midlands.

• The 23-year-old was a success at an early age, getting a goal and an assist for the Sandwell Academy Under-16s as they won the English National Schools Cup at Stoke’s bet365 Stadium in May 2017, beating Ravenswood School from Kent 3-0 in the final.

• During his time out on loan from Manchester City, Rogers was part of the Bournemouth side managed by former Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker which won promotion to the Premier League for just the second time in their history in 2021/22. They have remained in the top flight ever since.

• Chelsea were his opponents in two of the biggest matches of his early career. First in the 2020 FA Youth Cup final, when he and Cole Palmer were on target in a Manchester City win, and then when the Blues ended Middlesbrough’s League Cup run at the semi-final stage. Rogers was also on target at Stamford Bridge on that occasion. It was his fifth goal in six games in the 2023/24 League Cup, making him the competition’s top scorer.

• Cole Palmer’s trademark ‘cold’ celebration was actually first performed by our No10 as a tribute to his good friend Rogers, who had done the same thing after scoring the winning goal against his childhood club West Bromwich Albion for Middlesbrough seven days earlier in December 2023.

• Rogers is the second-youngest Englishman to score a hat-trick in the UEFA Champions League. He netted three times – two of them in the first five minutes – in Aston Villa’s 4-2 win over Celtic in January 2024. He was 22 years, 187 days old, second only behind Wayne Rooney. They were Morgan’s first-ever goals in the Champions League.

• The first senior trophy of Rogers’ career arrived last season, when he helped Aston Villa to win the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history. Typically, he got on the scoresheet as they defeated German side Freiburg 3-0 in the final, and was then named as the competition’s Player of the Season by UEFA.

• Having grown up in Halesowen, Rogers comes from a family of West Bromwich Albion supporters, even before he started his professional career in the Midlands side’s youth system, joining the Baggies at the age of seven.

• The local lad’s debut in senior football arrived with West Brom at the age of just 16. Having been named on the bench for a League Cup tie just a few days after picking his GCSE results, he then came on as a substitute to replace Wes Hoolahan in an FA Cup fourth replay against Brighton & Hove Albion, when he was playing alongside new Chelsea team-mate Tosin Adarabioyo.
