Following on from our analysis of the landmarks achieved by Chelsea at the Club World Cup, we use statistics to look at the notable individual contributions from Blues players during the tournament.

Bringing fresh silverware back to Stamford Bridge required a mighty collective effort from Enzo Maresca’s men. The head coach deployed every outfield player and two of his goalkeepers over the course of our seven fixtures as we navigated the various challenges posed by the new-look tournament.

There were some areas in which certain Blues excelled when judged across the entire playing field across the tournament, however, and we detail those here…

  • Cole Palmer ranked joint-highest for goal contributions with five (three goals, two assists), closely followed by Enzo Fernandez with four

  • No player outperformed their Expected Goals (xG) tally more than Joao Pedro. He accumulated an xG of 0.85 during his three appearances, and found the net three times

  • The Brazilian also had the joint-best shot conversion rate at the tournament, scoring with three of his six attempts.

  • Pedro Neto and Palmer were also in the top 10 for outperforming their xG – each scoring three goals from an identical xG of 1.64

  • Fernandez registered a tournament-high three assists

  • We had three players in the top ten for chances created – Palmer (12), Neto (11) and Fernandez (10)

  • Neto completed 18 dribbles, second only to Desire Doue, who registered 21. Palmer ranked fifth with 13

  • Neto’s 59 progressive carries was the fourth-highest figure in the tournament, with Palmer just behind on 58

  • Nobody created more chances from open play than Palmer’s 11, with Fernandez and Neto (both nine) and Cucurella (eight) all ranking highly, too
