Alejandro Garnacho praised the impact of Joao Pedro during our 4-1 win over Aston Villa - a game the winger likened to a 'final' - with the South American duo combining for the final goal of the Brazilian's hat-trick.

After three Premier League games without a win, it was the perfect response from the Blues during a rampant display at Villa Park. Although the hosts had opened the scoring early on, we answered back perfectly - Joao Pedro was in the right place to equalise before his delicate chip fired us into the lead heading into the break.

Following the interval, Cole Palmer made it three before Garnacho’s squared pass was converted by Joao Pedro to secure victory, and completed the forward’s first league hat-trick of the season. Winger Garnacho was on media duties post-match, where he praised his team-mate’s performance and the importance of his goals in our quest to secure a Champions League spot.

‘It’s crazy, the guy is just scoring goals,’ Garnacho said, speaking of Joao Pedro. ‘The confidence is very high, and he is helping us a lot, so we are really happy for him.

‘He’s performing how he knows to perform. He is a top striker, one of the best on the team, and I just passed it to him because of the hat-trick.’

The 21-year-old knew how important victory at Villa would be as we closed the gap on the top four last night, and he was particularly pleased to see such a positive reaction after going a goal behind in the West Midlands.

He continued: ‘It was a really good win. I think we got a good result at a difficult stadium. We are really proud of the group and happy to get the three points.

‘We knew after our last game, it was [almost like] a final today. We are a group that works really hard, so we came here and gave everything to the badge.

‘We have to win to take their top four place, and I think we have done a fantastic job, so we are really happy.’
