Our latest outing at Stamford Bridge was another entertaining, back-and-forth contest, with the Blues once again making a fast start as Morgan Rogers fired us ahead after seven minutes.

We appeared to have the game under control, only for two quick-fire goals from Mohamed Belloumi to send us into the half-time interval behind. In the second period, Joao Pedro levelled with a fine finish and we pushed hard for a winner. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive.

Alonso was disappointed with the nature of the goals conceded by the Blues, admitting after the full-time whistle that our progress is being hindered by a defensive fragility.

He said: 'We are taking steps forward, but we would like to have the feeling we are further. We know we will get there, but at the moment, there are some parts of the game that are compulsory that we need to improve and do better.

'We need to be more solid and be competing for the whole game, not just for some parts of the game. That consistency in performance is something that we need. That is clear and we know it’s a process, but that is where we will make the biggest improvement.

'We are confident in that [attacking] part, but we need to have the balance to be confident in the other part to be closer to winning games. Today we were not far but we got what we deserved today.'

Alonso's side have had little issue in the attacking third, with the Blues scoring 18 goals in our six matches thus far in all competitions. Yet the Blues manager has stressed the need for greater balance to ensure our goal-scoring prowess is always rewarded with victories.

‘It may be entertaining, but I hope that one day you say it was a boring game – that we win and we don’t give these entertaining moments,' he explained.

'Especially on the first goal, we can do much better; it was too soft to give them this hope because until then we were controlling the game and creating chances.

'The momentum we had changed a little bit [after their equaliser], and the mood and the score of the game. It’s something we need to talk about and address. We will get better, but it is having an impact on our performances.'
