However, two goals in the space of six first-half minutes from Mohamed Belloumi put Hull ahead at the interval. The Blues then had to battle back into the contest.

We managed to pull level through a fine Joao Pedro finish and pushed hard for a winner. Yet Hull, who hadn’t conceded a goal in the top flight before their trip to west London, were resolute to earn a share of the points.

The draw means the Blues have taken seven points from our opening four Premier League games. It’s a solid start, although one Alonso knows could have been better.

However, with less than a month of competitive football played, the Spaniard appreciates it’s natural there is still plenty of room for improvement during the season.

He said: ‘It’s early days for us. It’s one month together and in one month, we know the idea, the concepts, the mentality, but it’s too early to know it’s already built.

‘It will take longer, but we need to learn from everything and from this [against Hull] as well.

‘For sure, I think it will come. At the moment, we are not having that feeling we are solid enough. With work and with games, I think it will get better.’

On the defensive frailty of his side, which has seen the Blues concede at least twice in all of our Premier League matches this term, Alonso added: ‘Overall, I think we are attacking better than we are defending. In every aspect, so we know that it’s a big topic and a theme for us.

‘For sure, it’s just four games, but the dynamic in terms of conceding, I don’t like it and we to do much better. Open play, set-pieces, long balls, this toughness and competitive sense, we can do better.’
