‘But it's five games. For sure, we are now through [in the Carabao Cup] and we have two Premier League games before the international break. They are fundamental.

‘We want to finish well before the break and we have two tough games against Hull and Brentford.’

The first of those two fixtures comes on Saturday, as Hull City make the long trip down from Humberside to Stamford Bridge.

And Alonso, whose name was repeatedly chanted by the Blues faithful against Leeds, has highlighted the crucial role our supporters will play once more this weekend.

‘We need them,’ he said. 'We need to create this connection, and we need to have a good feeling in this stadium.’
