We continue our series asking the Chelsea players about their earliest memories of the game by speaking to USA attacker Alyssa Thompson…
Thompson joined the Blues from Angel City, the club where she took her first steps in the senior game a couple of years ago.
Still only 20, Thompson doesn’t have to rewind far to recall her first childhood memories…
What was the first football match you watched live?
I remember going to a game with my dad and my sister for father’s day, Mexico versus Ecuador in San Francisco. It was a very intense crowd, whoever was losing was getting mad and throwing drinks on the pitch!
Who was your first football hero?
Alex Morgan.
What were your first football boots?
They were just regular Nike ones. The first ones I remember are the Hypervenoms.
First coach?
My dad coached me a lot so I will say him.
Your first best friend in football?
My sister!
What was your first professional game?
It was against Gotham and I scored. It was so fun. I just remember being around my team-mates and them all coming to hug me.
I was just super happy out of high school I was able to do it. It was full circle for me when I scored. I just felt like I was meant to be there.
First piece of good advice that you remember that you were given?
You should be like a goldfish because they forget things quickly, so on the field if you make a mistake just move onto the next and try a make a good play the next play.
First time you were recognised in public?
It was probably after I was drafted to Angel City and being around LA, there was a billboard and somebody recognised me next to it. It was really cool!
