Alyssa Thompson has been nominated for the Women's Super League Player of the Year Award after an outstanding maiden campaign in the WSL.

The 21-year-old joined Chelsea on deadline day last summer, signing from Angel City FC in her home of Los Angeles. She made her Blues debut in our second game of the season when she was introduced at half-time in our 3-1 win away at Aston Villa.

Thompson celebrated her 21st birthday the day before we travelled to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal in November. The winger then announced herself to the WSL in dramatic fashion with a stunning first league goal for the Blues, handing us the lead after nine minutes.

‘When everyone ran around me, I just felt like a sense of belonging and a part of the team that I didn't feel before,’ said Thompson when describing that strike. ‘I think it was just feeling like… OK, I'm here now. I'm a part of Chelsea.'

The USWNT star has gone on to become a pivotal part of Sonia Bompastor's plans, appearing in 19 of our 21 WSL matches so far this term, and is our top goalscorer in the league with a tally of seven.

Alyssa goes up against Arsenal's Alessia Russo, Kirsty Hanson of Aston Villa, Everton's Ruby Mace, Kerstin Casparij and Khadija Shaw of Manchester City, Manchester United's Jess Park, and Tottenham Hotspur's Olivia Holdt.

You can vote for Thompson via this link. Voting is open now and will close at 5pm on Wednesday 13 May. The Player of the Season winner will be announced at the WSL Awards evening on Monday 18 May.

Good luck, Alyssa!
