Alyssa Thompson has hit the ground running since joining Chelsea from Angel City on a deadline-day transfer in the summer, but is still adjusting to the drop in temperatures!
The 21-year-old has already made 15 appearances for the Blues, and she added another goal to her name during our 5-0 win over West Ham United on Sunday.
Four of her five strikes for the Blues have come in the Women’s Super League. Indeed, no other Chelsea player has scored more than Thompson in the WSL this season.
While the Blues currently sit in second place in the table, six points behind leaders Manchester City, the dynamic forward is doing everything she can to keep the pressure on at the top.
‘I’m super happy,’ said the American after the win. ‘I feel like it was a good result for us and a great way to start the second half of the season.
‘We all wanted to begin this game really well. We know what we have coming up in the next half of the season, and we have a lot of work to do, so we wanted to start it off really strongly.
‘We know what we have to do in terms of getting results, and if we do that, we’ll be okay, so we’ll just take things game by game.’
Thompson was joined on the scoresheet against West Ham by Lauren James and Sandy Baltimore, and the winger feels that her link-up play with the France international down the left-hand side of the pitch is developing all the time.
While many things are falling into place for the youngster since her move from Los Angeles, she has yet to get used to the inevitable temperature drop that playing through an English winter brings.
‘My relationship with Sandy is really developing on the pitch,’ Thompson continued. ‘I think we are working well together. She’s a great player, so it’s easy to play with her.
‘It’s pretty different to playing in LA, it’s so cold here! But things are really good, and I feel like I’m getting better every day. The food is really good in London, and the people at Chelsea are really nice too.’
