When Chelsea celebrated our 2-0 Women’s League Cup win over Manchester United at Ashton Gate, Alyssa Thompson had to be pushed to the front to take her turn to lift the trophy.

Having won the SheBelieves Cup during the international break with the US Women’s National Team, the 21-year-old returned to Chelsea to claim her first-ever domestic trophy in the very next match.

It was perhaps no wonder then, her team-mates prompted her to take her turn with the silverware, and after the final whistle when we caught up with her, she was still on cloud nine.

‘I was super excited to play in the final,’ she beamed. ‘And now it feels amazing. I am so happy that we were able to win in front of our fans. This group is amazing, and it was just super cool to be able to win my first trophy.’

Chelsea recorded back-to-back wins over Manchester United after knocking Marc Skinner’s side out of the Women’s FA Cup before the international break.

Thompson felt Sunday afternoon’s victory was down to our solid teamwork, a key factor in overcoming a tough opponent for the second consecutive knockout match.

‘It was a tough game,’ continued the American. ‘They're a really good opponent. We gave it our all today. I think we played really well; we played as a team and worked for each other. That was how we were able to get the win.’

Thompson has now experienced what it feels like to lift a trophy in Blue, and she feels like it is the first of many at this club.

‘I definitely want to win a lot of trophies with Chelsea, and being here with this club right now, just, it feels amazing.’
