Our 4-0 win over Hull City was built on a strong collective display, with every area of the pitch contributing to an emphatic win on our travels. So, let's analyse how hat-trick hero Pedro Neto and the Blues overwhelmed the Tigers to earn a place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

It was a stellar display at the MKM Stadium as the Blues romped to a 4-0 win and, after earning 83 per cent of the Player of the Match vote on the Chelsea Official App, supporters agreed that Neto was certainly our standout player, yet it was truly an impressive team display.

Let's dive into how the FA Cup tie unfolded, examine the Portuguese winger's incredible night and detail how the Blues got the better of Hull under the lights on Humberside.

Hat-trick hero

Neto was clearly the star man from our fourth round tie, with supporters voting him as such on the Chelsea Official App by a commanding margin. And as for a first senior hat-trick, it certainly wasn't bad!

It was a simply sublime finish to open the scoring, picking out the bottom corner from the edge of the box just before the break. And after Neto doubled his and our tally by converting directly from a corner, he secured his hat-trick with a well-taken effort from just inside the area.

His goalscoring exploits mean he's jumped up to second in the FA Cup scoring rankings this season and onto 10 goals in all competitions for the Blues!

The winger was too hot to handle for the Tigers' defence, virtually becoming another number nine to play alongside Liam Delap in Liam Rosenior's system, as the average position graphic shows (Neto is underneath the nine of Delap). It allowed Liam to muscle off and pin the centre-backs, giving Neto space to use his quality.

Leading the way for shots (5), shots on target (4) and shots in the box (3), and with 49.4 per cent of the match action taking place in the centre lane, Neto showed not just his quality, but his ability to dictate games from the middle of the park.

After the match, Rosenior highlighted Pedro's talismanic performance, as he said: ‘Pedro Neto brings us so many different qualities that we need. For me, he’s a world-class player, a world-class winger. And what I love about him, as talented as he is and as gifted as he is, is what he sacrifices for the team is top.'

Linking up with Liam

Neto's influence was amplified by the movement around him, and no player contributed more to that than Delap, as the striker racked up three assists.

Even by his own admission, Liam should've got on the scoresheet after crashing the underside of the crossbar during the first half, but it certainly did not take any shine away from an incredible playmaking display from the striker throughout the night.

The 23-year-old's performance was based around running off the ball and intricate link-up play. Combined, both aspects created chances for his team-mates and earned him three impressive assists. In total, Delap created a match-high three chances for his team-mates, and touched the ball a huge ten times in the opposition's box - more than any other player.

His first assist comes from nice build-up play to fashion space for Neto, with the Portuguese winger receiving the ball with plenty of time to pick his spot after Delap vacates his position on the edge of the box.

Liam's second is a great example of how his tireless running created chances for his fellow attackers, as he beat his marker with skill and pace before laying off a tap-in for Estevao Willian inside the area.

And finally, Delap's third assist comes from a combination of both his brilliant running and build-up play. As Neto drills the ball towards him, Liam showcases some great centre forward play as he shields the ball from the defender before laying it off to Pedro to fire home to confirm both hat-tricks. Our ruthlessness in attacking positions was just as much thanks to Delap as it was Neto.

Defensive solidity

It was a commanding full Chelsea debut for Mamadou Sarr, who was recalled from his loan with Strasbourg in January, where he worked alongside Rosenior.

In fact, speaking after the match, our head coach said: 'Mamadou was everything that I expected. I know Mamadou so well, and I think his acclimatisation and adaptation process will, hopefully, be fast because he already understands how I want to play.'

And it's fair to say, it was a decent first step in the adaptation process for Sarr. Alongside helping his side to an important clean sheet, the defender covered the entire pitch well, making a crucial early block to deny Hull a goal.

Winning four duels - the most of any Chelsea defender - and winning possession six times - the most of any player - Mamadou was physically dominant while also showcasing his passing range with a lovely pass for Estevao that the Brazilian almost converted during the opening period.

During the game, Sarr had the best pass completion of anyone who completed more than 45 minutes, and the defender also linked up regularly with Andrey Santos, exchanging 20 passes between the duo - the third-highest total between any Chelsea pairing. Those figures highlight the defender's willingness to break the lines with forward passes, rather than simply recycling possession.

Jorrel Hato's performance in our back line was also another positive. Winning possession five times, the full-back was always the outlet when Hull tried to press us high, and linked up well with his attackers, like Alejandro Garnacho.

Defending the back post resolutely, Hato made the most interceptions (2) for the Blues while making the second most clearances (5). And while Neto’s hat-trick will take the headlines, this was a victory shaped by the likes of Delap, Sarr and Hato, with the Blues' collective movement, impressive build-up, and defensive control crucial to earning a place in the next round of the FA Cup.
