Andrey Santos says it was 'special' to score his first Premier League goal for Chelsea against our heated London rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, and insists playing for the Blues is 'like a dream for my family and me'.

It was a typically combative game between rivals Chelsea and Spurs, with flashpoints throughout the contest and chances for both sides. Yet it was the Blues who broke the deadlock when Enzo Fernandez drove a 25-yard shot beyond Spurs goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.

The Blues doubled our advantage in the second period. Fernandez cushioned a floated Pedro Neto cross to the back post into the path of Andrey Santos, who swept home a neat finish. And while the visitors did claim a consolation goal, we claimed three points to keep us firmly in contention to seal European football.

And that objective was at the front of Santos’ mind when he spoke after the match, highlighting the importance of getting the job done with one final Premier League game left to play.

Santos said: ‘It’s special for me because it was my first goal in the Premier League and it came in my first game against Spurs. I'm so happy because we won this game, and now we have to move on to the last game.

‘The chance to qualify for Europe is still there. I know it's a little bit hard, but we have to do our job. There is one game left, and we have to work hard this week to win it.

‘I'm so happy with this performance. I even looked at my phone after the game, and my wife had sent me a message saying, ‘Wow, what's happened with you today?’ I said, ‘I don't know, but I'm so happy, and I want that to happen more times!’

The Brazil international also praised the fantastic atmosphere conjured up by the Blues faithful at the Bridge, explaining that he appreciated the significance of the game, particularly after speaking with our captain, Reece James.

He said: ‘Wow – the atmosphere was amazing because we needed their support. I know that in this moment it is a little bit difficult, but today was amazing.

‘I asked some people about how important this game is here. I asked Reece when we played away, and he explained to me Then today I scored and we won!’

With the end of his first full season with the Blues approaching, the 22-year-old reflected on how much he has learned and developed during the campaign, and how he and his family have settled into life in England.

‘I think this club opened the door to Europe for me,’ he continued. ‘I joined Chelsea when I was 18 years old, and it’s changed my life. I was playing in Brazil's second division, and moving to the Premier League is not easy.

‘And then I joined Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg as well, but now I'm back and I'm so happy to be here - my family too. My second son is English, so I'm so happy because it’s like a dream for my family and me to play here at Chelsea. It's a dream.’

He also saved a final word for the club’s incoming manager, Xabi Alonso, highlighting his excitement for the season to come.

Santos added: ‘Xabi [Alonso] is a top manager and is a legend in football. He played in my position too, so I have to work hard. We will work hard to finish the season, and then in the summer, we will see what happens.’
