Andrey Santos may not have grabbed the headlines at Selhurst Park like his compatriots Estevao Willian and Joao Pedro, but the midfielder still played a pivotal role in our success. He has been speaking about working with Liam Rosenior again and his enjoyment having two fellow Brazilians alongside him in the team.
Andrey Santos has been a regular for the Blues in his first full season at the club, appearing 26 times already. He started his sixth match in the league at Crystal Palace, and after the 3-1 win Rosenior explained how crucial his positioning and tactical awareness was in that game, at times dropping deeper between the centre-backs to match the hosts’ system.
It has helped Andrey Santos that he was at Strasbourg last season under Rosenior’s tutelage, shining in several different positions as the Ligue 1 club achieved their highest position in decades. He explained the impact our new head coach has had since arriving at Stamford Bridge.
‘He has given a big confidence boost, not only for me but for a lot of other players as well,’ said the 21-year-old.
‘I try to help my team-mates because I know the type of football he wants. It’s easy for me because I know him and I worked with him. He wants every player to work hard, to fight, and we have to give him some time to win games and to win trophies as well.
‘But the goal this season is to win every trophy that’s possible. When you talk about Chelsea, you have to win trophies.’
Rosenior also noted Andrey Santos, as well as Joao Pedro, has helped his compatriot Estevao Willian settle at the club.
For our No.17, it is simply a delight he has a Brazilian fraternity around him.
He said: ‘I told Estevao he is a superstar! It’s not easy when you come from another country, another language, it’s hard but he is doing very well. I am so happy to play with him here and in the national team.
‘And Joao is my brother. He is a top player and a top guy as well. I’m so happy for Joao Pedro, he’s so important and hopefully he can keep getting confidence from the goals he is scoring.’
